Aether Clock OC-020
Atomic & Quantum Clocks by Shimadzu
Overview
Shimadzu’s Aether Clock OC-020, introduced in March 2025, is the first optical lattice clock to reach commercial availability. It operates by trapping ultracold strontium-87 atoms in an optical lattice and probing an optical transition, delivering a level of precision about 100 times greater than traditional cesium atomic clocks, with a deviation of less than one second over 10 billion years. The system is priced at approximately ¥500 million (around $3.3 million USD).
